Breathing life into the Art :
Training at the Twin Cities Budokan
The Twin Cities Budokan is a place where one can learn the art of the Japanese sword.
Students begin on the path with basic techniques and wooden training weapons. As one’s skill increases, more advanced techniques are given. Eventually real swords are introduced and more techniques are presented.. Students learn the theory and the application of kenjutsu. Contemporary times demand a methodology that fits and works with today. Students get a healthy dose of traditional techniques and practices along with strenuous training sessions designed to push the body and the mind. Practice includes activities like Sword drawing (iai) and sparring with bokken (shobu) and practice cutting (sueomono) on rolled tatami mat targets. Not all people that join the Twin cities Budokan will be successful in this program, it requires hard work and dedication to obtain rank and status in the dojo. To see examples of what some of the training looks like, click the links below. This program is structured for those students that have a desire to learn this art form. Some people are drawn to the sword naturally. If you are one of them, stop dreaming and join us!
